What Is ContactGlove3?

ContactGlove3 is a glove-type VR controller featuring haptic feedback functionality. It delivers a highly immersive VR experience through button input, high-precision hand tracking, and tactile feedback via Haptic Reactors. It works with existing SteamVR content and can be used with a wide range of titles including VRChat and Resonite. When combined with the dedicated controller module Magnetra3, it achieves both hands-free natural operation and input performance equivalent to conventional controllers.

Ultra-High Precision Tracking with Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Technology

ContactGlove3 has completely overhauled its sensing technology to electromagnetic field (EMF) tracking, which directly captures the 3D positions of fingertips and joints as absolute coordinates. In the recommended environment, it achieves a median error of 0.5 mm and a maximum of 1.5 mm (*figures based on our measurement method) — precision unprecedented for a glove-type controller.

This enables accurate capture of extremely delicate hand movements that were difficult for conventional bend sensor-based glove controllers (as used in ContactGlove2):

• Precisely aligning fingertips of both hands (interlocking fingers, forming a heart with both hands, making hand signs, etc.)

• Handling objects in the palm, moving the fingers, pinching, rolling objects, etc.

• Actions requiring precision in fingertip position, such as playing musical instruments or sign language

Whether it’s communication in VRChat and Resonite or any experience where hand expressions are directly reflected on the avatar, ContactGlove3 delivers this to everyone who wears the glove.

Includes Dedicated Controller Module “Magnetra3”

ContactGlove3 comes bundled with the new controller module Magnetra3. Magnetra3 continues the improvements from the previous model with enhancements to the button layout and attachment method, and newly introduces a “Grip Lock Button” that physically locks the grip state by pressing a button.

Previously, grip operations were determined solely by hand shape (gesture), meaning that any slight change in hand shape during an operation would unintentionally release the grip. With the newly added Grip Lock Button, the grip is not released even if the hand shape changes, enabling more reliable and intuitive actions such as grasping, holding, and throwing objects.

As a result, Magnetra3 achieves grip stability for “grasp and hold” operations that surpasses conventional VR controllers, while maintaining hands-free immersion.

Improved Fit and Maintainability

Addressing the fit and durability issues with the fabric portion of the previous model, the material and fastening structure have been redesigned for comfortable long-term use. The structure continues to expose the fingertips (first knuckle), allowing keyboard and other operations while wearing the glove. The fabric portion continues to support washing and replacement. Regarding the thumb, which has a high degree of expressive freedom, high-precision tracking is achieved by attaching a dedicated fingertip cap, enabling faithful reproduction of even delicate thumb movements.
